General Objectives

To train competent mid-cadre technicians (at Technician certificate level) by imparting knowledge, competencies and skills in the field of exploration and mining geology

Specific Objectives

The Specific Objectives of the programme will be to ensure that upon completion of the NTAL 5 programme technicians are expected to be able to:

  • Describe basic components of geological, geochemical and geophysical methods and perform (under supervision) geological and geochemical sampling, and geophysical data acquisition in mining geology.
  • Identify and describe basic components of mining geology and mining methods.
  • Operate field geological, geochemical and geophysical tools and equipment related to mineral exploration and drilling.
  • Prepare samples and undertake simple field and laboratory analysis and tests of geological (rocks, cores and minerals), and geochemical (rocks, soils and stream sediments) samples;
  • Prepare basic technical reports for geological, geochemical and geophysical field activities in mineral exploration and mining geology.
  • Undertake basic geological, geochemical, geophysical and drilling l field camp management.

Admission Requirements

An applicant must have completed successfully the Basic Certificate (NTA Level 4) in Exploration and Mining Geology or its equivalent from NACTVET acredited institution with at least a 2.0GPA.

Applicants must posses at least four (4) D passes from Certificate of Secondary Education Examination in non-religious subjects. Out of four (4) passes, two (2) must be from science subjects (Physics, Engineering science, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Geography). OR Passed NVTA L3 in Engineering aligned subjects from VETA Registered Institutions.

Applicants must posses a relevant NTAL4 from NACTVET Accredited colleges at 2.0GPA
